In our #AskAsh Review of the Year, Flicx UK’s Business Development Manager, Ashley Appleby takes a look back at some of the projects and partnerships which Flicx UK have been part of in 2018. Our Top 5 hits of 2018 (#AskAsh Review of the Year) include details of work projects with County Boards, cricketing charity The Lord’s Taverners as well as great feedback on the 2G Flicx Pitch indoors, beach cricket and our expanding global reach. All of these stories demonstrate the versatility and portability of the 2G Flicx Pitch and how the innovative surface is helping to create better facilities for more people to participate in cricket and shows the true power of sport in helping to bring communities together. 1. County Boards – We have been delighted to extend and create new partnerships with several County Boards this year. Applications and examples include with

• Middlesex Cricket helping solve the problem of lack of facilities in urban areas
• Worcester CCC attracting corporate support for their Street 6’s festival (More)
• Surrey Cricket Foundation is trying to boost cricket participation in state schools by converting football fields to cricket facilities (More)
• Essex Cricket hosting tape ball cricket festivals at football grounds to engage with the SE Asian communities. Yorkshire CF and Cornwall Cricket also host fantastic beach cricket events on our surface …

2. Lord Taverners

Flicx UK were delighted to attend and support the #Wicketz festival hosted by Lord’s Taveners at Repton School in August. The festival was the biggest in the history of the Wicketz programme and saw over 120 young people from across the country took part in a three-day residential course consisting of competitive cricket, coaching masterclasses and vital life changing workshops. (Read More on this partnership in the blog from the Wicketz Festival) 

3. Indoor Cricket

Great feedback has been forthcoming from numerous sources on how well the 2G Flicx Pitch has been accepted for indoor use and we’ve held a number of different demonstrations on different surfaces just to show people how the pitch works and at the moment we find that the type of feedback that we get is that with conventional matting the bounce is really low, the pitches curl up they difficult and cumbersome to roll and they take up a lot of storage space and with the 2G cricket pitch not only are we sorting out all of those issues but we are giving them terrific performance in terms of pace and bounce and we found that even on low bouncing indoor surfaces the new 2G Flicx cricket pitch gives you improved bounce which has really been encouraging. – says Ashley Appleby

4. Beach Cricket

We have seen some great Beach Cricket events hosted on the 2G Flicx Pitch this year including with Yorkshire Cricket Foundation, Sierra Leone Cricket Association, Sydney Sixers, the Black Caps and in Cornwall, where teams rowed out to a sandbank to play a game sponsored by a local brewery .
