Gloucestershire Cricket Foundation Partners with Flicx UK to support cricket pitch challenges

Gloucestershire Cricket Foundation (GCF) is proud to announce an exciting new partnership with Flicx UK who developed the world’s most versatile, portable roll out cricket wicket back in 1999. This collaboration aims to bring their revolutionary 2G Flicx Pitch to more clubs and schools across Gloucestershire with the potential to transform the way cricket is played and developed.

The 2G Flicx Pitch allows clubs and schools to optimise their playing space and significantly increase cricketing opportunities which especially helps clubs experiencing big growth in participation. What also sets the 2G Flicx Pitch apart is its ability to save time and money on ground preparation, making it an invaluable asset for any cricketing organisation.

In recent years the 2G Flicx Pitch has become increasingly popular with grounds under more pressure to accommodate more games of cricket. This has stretched grounds people to produce more pitches when they have less opportunities to get on the square to do the work. The 2G Flicx Pitch has a wide range of applications but the most popular sees the two half pitch batting ends placed on existing grass outfields to enable multiple junior games to take place simultaneously. Neil Stacey, from Kingswood Village Cricket Club who purchased a 2G Flicx Skills Batting end at the start of the 2023 season, shared his experience, stating, “It was the move into hard ball youth league cricket that prompted us to look at a 2G Flicx pitch. We had bought a ‘pop up’ net which we wanted to use on our square, but we also wanted to take pressure off the square, reduce wear and tear and ensure a truer safer bounce so the Flicx is rolled on top to protect it.

We think the pitch has been a huge success, it’s given us a great deal of flexibility, is very easy to put out and bring back in again and has played really well (good bounce and carry).”

With the huge increase in opportunities for girls and women’s cricket in recent years, another local customer is Redmaids’ High School “With cricket being played competitively across multiple teams in each age-group, the 2G Flicx Pitch gives Redmaids’ much needed extra capacity. Whilst one game is taking place on the turf wicket, another can be hosted on 2G Flicx Pitch” says Simon Hodges who also points to how the pitch is used as an invaluable learning tool to help girls transition to hard ball cricket.
