In recent years, Redmaids’ High School has witnessed a remarkable surge in girls’ interest in cricket. Their portable 2G Flicx Pitch and matching branded stumps purchased in April 2022 has not only increased their capacity for matches and training but has also played a pivotal role in nurturing talent and fostering a love for cricket among the students.
A good investment
Simon Hodges, Estates & Operations Manager at Redmaids’ highlights the profound impact of the 2G Flicx Pitch on the development of girls’ cricket. “The Flicx pitch has been a good investment for the School as it’s been a great stepping stone to introduce more girls to the hard ball game by providing a consistent training surface. Furthermore, the expansion of our facilities and the Flicx Pitch’s robust playing surface enables the school to train more students across the school week across all age-groups”
From Flicx Pitch to Turf Wicket
Buoyed by the success of the Flicx Pitch, Redmaids’ High School took a significant step forward by investing in a full-scale grass cricket square in the summer of 2022. This marked a significant milestone for the school and a testament to the growing popularity and success of their girls’ cricket program.
Despite the introduction of the grass square, the 2G Flicx Pitch continues to be an integral part of the school’s cricket program. Simon emphasises, “The Flicx pitch is used in conjunction with the grass cricket square, particularly for those girls who are being introduced to hard ball cricket. It ensures they have a consistent wicket to play on before transitioning onto our turf wicket.” This strategic approach ensures that each girl has the opportunity to hone her skills in a controlled environment, setting the stage for a seamless transition to the grass surface.
“With cricket being played competitively across multiple teams in each age-group, the 2G Flicx Pitch gives Redmaids’ much needed extra capacity. Whilst one game is taking place on the turf wicket, another can be hosted on 2G Flicx Pitch. A sports field used in the Winter as a football pitch is now converted with the roll out wicket in the Summer for cricket so we are getting multi sport use from our grounds which gives us flexibility in offering a wide range of sports throughout the academic year”Simon Hodges
The female cricket success stories emerging from Redmaids’ High School are a testament to the value of the Flicx Pitch in talent development. Simon proudly states, “We do have some very good cricketers who developed their skills having started playing on the Flicx pitch.” This highlights the pivotal role played by the Flicx Pitch in providing a solid foundation for future success –“ it’s an invaluable learning tool” The school’s investment has not only paid off in terms of skill development but has also ignited a passion for the cricket within many girls, that will undoubtedly leave a lasting legacy.
Through thoughtful integration and strategic use of resources, the school has managed to create a thriving cricket program that continues to inspire and empower girls to excel in the sport. The future looks bright for Redmaids’ High School’s cricketing endeavours, and the 2G Flicx Pitch will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of cricketing stars.
