Cricket at Home | 5 FAQ’s about playing with a Flicx Pitch
For many cricketer’s around the world, backyard cricket holds many precious family memories. Its fun yet fiercely competitive and the “house” rules can be quite amusing especially regarding penalties for hitting the ball into the neighbour’s garden! The 2G Flicx Pitch allows you to take cricket at home game or training to a whole new level! If you are considering purchasing, here are 5 frequently asked questions on our portable cricket pitch – which is supplied in your choice of 4m, 7.5m or 10m sizes.
What is the bounce like?
With any pitch, you want to be able to play your shots in confidence and replicate the innovative and elaborate strokes seen from the likes of Jos Buttler, Virat Kohli and Ben Stokes in recent years. The 2G Flicx Pitch will allow you to do this without the ball skidding onto the bat. The bounce is true and good, which is great for cricket at home games.
This pitch is effective with real leather cricket balls (to realistically prepare for club and school matches), tapeballs, incrediballs, bowling machine balls and tennis balls. It is suitable for adults and seniors, as well as correcting many imperfections of the under surface. Just roll it out on any firm, flat area so could be set it up contained within a net or use it for backyard matches with the family.
Does the pitch take spin?
Yes! As well as being a top-quality batting surface, the pitch is also great for bowlers to hone their craft. Coloured coaching targets on the skills pitch will help leg spin bowlers to get a consistent line and length. Unlike many traditional artificial surfaces, where the ball will go straight on, the Flicx Pitch tiles are grippy and enable bowlers to build muscle memory in their ‘bowling action’ by aiming for certain target tiles and then spinning the ball onto the wicket.
How will it help develop my daughter or sons cricketing skills?
Absolutely! The Flicx Pitch will extend your cricket season and allow you to practice all hours of the day! Our skills design is extremely popular in gardens, as the colour coded zones allow batsmen to develop their decision making and for bowlers to develop consistency with their line and length. Games can be created with point scoring systems combined with a bowling machine or by one of your house members feeding balls to develop your technique – The targets will help with feeding accuracy too!
Can you keep the pitch down over the summer?
Usability is one of the key benefits of the Flicx pitch. It is super easy to use, quick to roll out and pack up – You’ll be playing cricket at home in no time! It is virtually maintenance free and you can keep your pitch down for the whole summer.
In terms of preparation you need a firm, flat area and the grass cut down short to 15mm, so the pitch is flush to your base. Each week we would recommend rolling the pitch to one side whilst you mow under your pitch to keep the grass short underneath which will give you optimal performance. The 2G Flicx Pitch will also work on top of astro or on an artificial subbase which is relatively inexpensive to construct.
How long will the pitch last for?
The 2G Flicx Pitch is high quality durable wicket, hand made to order in the UK, which rolls up conveniently for storage. Flicx has been manufacturing cricket pitches for over 20 years and some of the early pitches are still being used today!
