The 2022 English cricket season has now come to an end. Schools and clubs up and down the country have distributed out their end of season awards and kit bags have been put away for the winter. Looking back at what has been an incredible summer where Ben Stokes the English Test team have produced some iconic moments, it has been great to contribute to the development of the sport at a grassroots level with many organisations turning to Flicx Pitches to expand and grow their provision … here are some of our favourite examples
April 2022: The 2022 Flicx cricket season started in Iceland, the Flicx Pitch was used in the indoor T20 tournament- Volcanic Ashes. The Kopavogur Puffins continued with their outstanding record in this tournament, bagging the fifth Volcanic Ashes trophy.
Flicx Pitches featured in The Cricketer Magazine in April, collaborating to provide a “The Cricketer” branded Flicx pitch for a club or school who entered the competition. Congratulations to Richmond Cricket Club who won the branded pitch worth £1,570.
May 2022:
Flicx attended the annual Surrey Disability Day were over 400 children and young adults across the county came for a day filled with cricket, socialising, and most importantly fun. The day was a massive success. Flicx brought along three pitches to the annual day at the Kennington Oval. Two pitches were used at one of the many stations scattered on the outfield, where the young adults and children developed their bowling skills and improved their techniques. The final pitch was used by the Surrey Visually Impaired Team, integrating those attending and allowing them the opportunity to enjoy a game of cricket. We at Flicx were honoured to part of such an incredible day.
June 2022:
Cricket in state schools in Surrey have benefited from the developing partnership between the Surrey Cricket Foundation and Flicx UK in 2022. Fullbrook School was the first lucky receipt of a pitch donation, and this project was chosen due to the impact that the pitch would have on the schools expanding cricket programme. The Flicx pitch will play a big role in developing state school cricket in the area and nurturing talent.
Flicx Pitches have ventured far and wide in the Year of 2022 taking us all the way to Japan. Cricket is growing fast in Japan and Dhugal Bedingfield, Community Cricket Manager and National Head Coach at Japan Cricket Association (JCA), has lofty ambitions for its development including winning the World Cup!! On the domestic front, 2G Flicx Pitches have been helping the Japan Cricket Association (JCA), to resolve facility challenges for well over a decade with 3000 + players at all levels of the game frequently playing on a network of portable, roll out Flicx wickets.
June continued to be a busy month for Flicx Pitches, Valley End Cricket Club and the Rascals disability team were delighted to host the inaugural Inter Hub Match Day; welcoming teams from Merstam (Magic), Rowledge and a Surrey invitational XI. Having hosted disability festivals in 2020 and 2021, the ability to play two games on one pitch on reliable, true, and safe outfield pitches made the whole event much simpler to manage than having to use two or three pitches.
“The flexibility of having the two Flicx pitches meant officials, players, and spectators we all able to be accommodated alternating between pitches with each Hub Clubs teams participated in at least two Super 9 matches in the one afternoon”- Adrian Gale (Valley End CC)
July:
July saw Flicx feature at the Sky Sports x The Hundred Activation days in Manchester and London, where the likes of Tammy Beaumont, Eoin Morgan, Elle Threlkeld and Nasser Hussain attended. Two pitches branded pitches were provided for the days, where members of the public could get involved and play their shots on a Flicx Pitch with some of England cricketing legends. It was great to see the community getting engaged with the activation day and enjoying some cricket on the Flicx Pitch.
August:
Flicx Pitches were used at the Countdown Cricket Cup in Cardiff Castle, an initiative to get kids and adults involved in cricket in the surrounding areas. It was a great day with an incredible backdrop of the Castle, thanks to Cricket Wales for having us.
A busy August also saw Flicx provide pitches for the annual Festival of Sport. Festival of Sport at Holkham Park, provides an opportunity for kids to try new sports with expert coaching, such as the likes of Andrew Strauss. Furthermore, learning new skills in the sports, they love. Flicx Pitches have been ideal at the festival providing a portable cricket wicket that is safe and “true” for all attendees to enjoy their cricket.
Extend your season with Flicx Pitches
Overall, the 2022 Cricket season has been an incredible one for us here at Flicx. We have further developed partnerships with County boards, sent pitches to a range of developing cricketing nations and being part of some fantastic events. Furthermore, Flicx has also provided countless schools across the country with Flicx Pitches to expand their facilities and help grow the sport. Ashcombe School, Cranford House and Bedford Girls to name a few.
The season doesn’t stop for Flicx as our portable pitches have been instrumental in extending the season for many clubs and schools and providing a solution for indoor nets. We look forward to growing the sport this winter.
