This weekend saw the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation Beach Cricket Festival host its now famous beach cricket competition where local cricket clubs compete in mini games on Scarborough Beach. For the third year, the 2G Flicx Pitch was involved in the project … we just roll out our wicket and let the fun commence. This year a blue skills pitch was used complete with the YCF logo embedded in the crease.
In addition to the Beach Cricket Festival, the YCF have a new initiative that is using a 2G Flicx Pitch to help create an authentic facility. Pop Up Cricket invites children between the ages of 6 and 13, to free cricket sessions, held in three local venues across Leeds.
Funded by the Charitable Youth Trust the sessions, held on Tuesdays and Thursdays over the last three weeks, targeted communities in areas of deprivation, focusing on children who may not have had the opportunity or means to play cricket before. Attracting children from different backgrounds, ethnicities and genders, the cricket coaching introduced cricket to new audiences who may not have had the opportunity to play before, with an impressive turn out of around 60 children in attendance for each day!
It’s been fantastic to see the different communities have the opportunity to play cricket in their local parks. The enthusiasm shown for the game and spirit shown during the sessions demonstrates how powerful sport can be in bringing communities together.
Flicx UK’s business development manager Ashley Appleby attended the beach cricket event, alongside some officials from the ECB and the feedback on the pitch was entirely positive. Nick Robinson, Project Officer at the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation said

It also makes the game look more fun and exciting’
